American-born Swiss international artist Gwenneth Barth-White is a Maître Pastelliste and Vice-President of the 150-year-old Société des Pastellistes de France; she's a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, a member of the IAPS Master Circle. Her work has been exhibited in Geneva, Gstaad, New York, Toronto, Paris, and in many French and American venues.
“I’m very honoured to have a chance to be part of Australian Pastel Expo. I’ve always been intrigued by the outstanding artists in this country. This will be a wonderful opportunity to consolidate the world-wide network of pastel artists. Exploring the myriad of possibilities in artistic expression has always been a siren’s call for me. Finding a creative diluted ground for the juxtaposition of pastel…how exciting! Working on a rough surface? Or with strong colour, or just a whisper? Maybe just a simple drawing is enough, but how about a wonderful, rich, unctuous painting? All of this is endlessly inspiring.
The human figure still remains my main inspiration: the expressions and moods encompassed in a human presence. How a person relates to existence...this catches me in a place where I simply have to react. Based in Sydney, Tricia Taylor is a Master Pastellist with the Pastel Society of Australia and has won many awards including Pastellist of the Year 2010. Tricia’s work has been published in a variety of national art magazines including Australian Artist, Art Edit and Paint and Draw Magazine UK. Teaching from beginners to advanced students for many years Tricia her workshops are in demand in Australia and internationally including Fiji, New Zealand and the USA.
Unison Pastels, a handmade pastel company form the UK have endorsed Tricia’s artwork by creating the Tricia Taylor pastel sets. Seascape, Rock and Earth and Sand colour selections are available on her website. With their 30th Anniversary in 2017 they have recently made Tricia an Accredited Unison Artist.
GWENDOLIN LEWIS
Gwendolin Lewis has been painting continuously for the last 17 years.
She is well known throughout art circles in Australia and internationally and has a unique talent for capturing the emotional essence of a subject.
That might be the atmospheric effect of weather or simply the time of day, but it is in this place that Gwendolin produces beautiful and evocative works. Gwendolin works in her private studio near Newcastle and also teaches classes and workshops.

Maritime Painting...Big Ships

In this demonstration you will be shown how to paint big ships, coal tankers and tugboats in pastel and it is as exciting as it sounds.
Under painting techniques are the key so bring your sense of adventure and you will be shown on a full sheet of pastel paper, with big brushes and broad strokes of pastel how Gwendolin creates an expressive yet authentic Maritime painting.

In Spring Summer Autumn or Winter even in Australia, trees tell us a different story and with constantly changing weather and light they take on many guises.
In this Workshop you will be shown how to use pastels to paint in a non traditional way, washing in the pastel with Isocol spirit to create visual texture.
Using colour groups and shapes as an under painting then using Soft Pastels to define and bring out detail in the painting. This style of painting is creative and impressionistic and does not need accuracy.
Working from photo references supplied by the tutor the workshop will include step by step demonstration in the composition, colour and tonal values of this exciting painting subject.

In this exciting demonstration you will be shown how to paint flowers in a colorful and contemporary way using colour families in soft pastel and ink….Flowers in Season will be the reference.
Gwendolin will show how to choose a composition and a colour family to work with in your painting. Soft Pastels have a brilliance and a beauty that is unique to this medium and very suited to Flower paintings .
Underpaintings and drawing will be in coloured ink they are so important in a painting as they allow you to put your own style, voice and creative techniques to work.
