GWENNETH
BARTH-WHITE
American-born Swiss international artist Gwenneth Barth-White is a Maître Pastelliste and Vice-President of the 150-year-old Société des Pastellistes de France; she's a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, a member of the IAPS Master Circle. Her work has been exhibited in Geneva, Gstaad, New York, Toronto, Paris, and in many French and American venues.

“I’m very honoured to have a chance to be part of Australian Pastel Expo. I’ve always been intrigued by the outstanding artists in this country. This will be a wonderful opportunity to consolidate the world-wide network of pastel artists. Exploring the myriad of possibilities in artistic expression has always been a siren’s call for me. Finding a creative diluted ground for the juxtaposition of pastel…how exciting! Working on a rough surface? Or with strong colour, or just a whisper? Maybe just a simple drawing is enough, but how about a wonderful, rich, unctuous painting? All of this is endlessly inspiring.
The human figure still remains my main inspiration: the expressions and moods encompassed in a human presence. How a person relates to existence...this catches me in a place where I simply have to react. I think that attendees can make the most of the Expo experience by putting all prior knowledge and judgement aside, in order to fully explore and absorb what is offered."

LYN MELLADY
While Lyn Mellady worked as a ballet teacher, a primary teacher and a travelling art adviser to schools her own artwork evolved and it became her career.
Lyn works most frequently with the soft pastel medium using its beautiful versatility and purity to paint her favoured sea or waterscapes and the untamed often fragile beauty of Australia. No matter what her subject, Lyn searches for any special conditions or characteristics. This character becomes the energy in her paintings.

Five of her works have been acquired for government city collections in Australia and Japan. Lyn features in seven art reference books, and online she was invited to feature in the Best of Worldwide Artists Collectors’ edition – World’s Top 13 Seascape Artists. She has also featured in magazines Australian Artist, Pastel International and Australian Palette.

The Australian Guild of Realist Artists have given her Life membership and her Fellow status represents the quality of her paintings. The Signature Member status of the Pastel Society of Victoria reflects her cumulative art awards for pastel works. With many other art awards, her realist/impressionistic works in pastel or oil, have a visible sensitivity coming from observation and understanding of her subjects.

Passionate about her work, play and trial are separate from her personal paintings. These occupy her easel until completion and choosing to be mostly Australian based has not limited her personal career which has covered painting, exhibitions, art travel, art gallery ownership, paintings hanging worldwide, mentoring, taking plein air tours and launching 15 art instructional DVDs for ‘Paint Down Under’ which have sold worldwide.

Lyn was invited to represent Australia as a juror for six years for the original Canadian based ‘landscapesinternational.com’. She conducts workshops across Australia and judges art shows. Lyn has enjoyed teaching for many years and since the Covid lockdowns her combination of personal and video demonstrations have suited her constantly full, zoom focus workshops.

The slow and up-tempo dances of light, and water
Student Experience Level: All Students

Water is Lyn's special subject. Rather than simply echo a demonstration you will will get to know your subject. Short studies will free up our expression with observation then we spend the day exploring the seemingly quiet river pool before it cascades over the edge with sparkles of sunlight and shadow.
Water clarity, translucency, the angles of light and reflection, sunshine and shadow all play their part. We will become conscious of the usefullness of design, value, colour temperature, the three perspectivesof space, lost and found detail and the importance of contrast.

Making Your Personal Artistic Mark
Student Experience Level: Intermediate/Experienced

Recognizing and developing a Personal Response and adapting the skill set that we each have as an artist, is vital to express our reaction and feeling with our subjects. Spend a day to take the time to learn who you are as an artist.
While we are constantly learning from many inspiring sources it sometimes distracts from developing the inner artist response that is part of who we really are. We will explore where we are in the journey, examine personal subjects, colour, techniques, and preferences. Each artist will relax with their personal painting response to differing subjects and reinforce their natural expression. There are many facets to beinging an artist. One sizedoes not fit all. Lyn will help you selectively gain inspiration from yourself and consider your possibilities ahead as you develop your personal Artistic Mark.
